The membership criteria fully outlines the educational requirements for Accreditation.
All members must renew their membership on an annual basis. The Membership year runs from 1 August to 31st July.
You can apply to join ACI under the following membership categories. You may apply online, or by submitting your application by email or post.
Associate members of ACI benefit from communication and participation in some of the activities of the association.
Pre Accredited Membership
All members must be Pre Accredited for twelve months before applying for full Accreditation.
Pre Accreditation Form
Inactive membership can be offered to members who cease counselling for an agreed limited time, up to a maximum of two years.
It protects their accredited membership status while it also protects the public.
Inactive members of the Addiction Counsellors of Ireland cannot offer counselling to clients.

Clinical Supervisor Membership
Applicants must be a fully accredited counsellor with ACI at QQI Level 8 for a minimum of 5 years prior to date of application and have successfully completed a core training course (as outlined in 5.1 of the Membership Criteria).

Payment of Fees
Associate, Pre-Accredited, Accredited and Clinical Supervisor Membership must be paid online via the payment gateway on the website.
Renewals for Associated, Pre-Accredited, Accredited and Clinical Supervisor Memberships are paid by accessing your account at: https://aci2023.wpengine.com/my-account. The renewal date is August 1st for all memberships.
Reminder emails will be sent two and one weeks before renewals are due.
