About
Brief History of ACI
ACI was originally formed as the IAAAC (Irish Association of Alcohol and Addiction Counsellors) in 1990 as the professional body to represent alcohol and addiction counsellors in Ireland. The Association was rebranded as Addiction Counsellors of Ireland CLG (ACI) in 2013 to reflect contemporary membership, ensure congruence with emerging alcohol and drug policy and create robust structures for representing the profession in the twenty-first century.
What we do
The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland provides an essential primary service for those seeking counselling and help by ensuring that its accredited counsellors meet a high standard of competence in clinical practice.
The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland provides support and information to its members in the areas of continuing personal development (CPD), further education and skills training. It aims to promote the views and interests of its members through research, communications and evaluation of the on-going developments in the field of addiction.
Our Vision
The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland looks forward to a future where those suffering from addiction can openly seek professional help from an accredited counsellor, where addiction in Ireland is no longer dealt with behind closed doors and the stigma associated with addiction is put aside.
Our Mission
The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland strives to be a leading professional accreditation association for counsellors in the field of addiction in Ireland.
