The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland accredit courses where the theoretical and experiential input meet our Membership Criteria.
We are currently carrying out a review of our accreditation requirements (July-September 2014) following which this section will be updated.
In the meantimne, if you considering commencing a course in Addiction Counselling we advise that you contact the ACI office for advice before entering into any commitments.
Important Advice to Students
In March 2014, the Minister for Health advised the Health & Social Care Professionals Council of his intention to regulate Counselling & Psychotherapy in the near future. We wish to bring your attention to the fact that all Professional Associations of the Psychological Therapies Forum are agreed that in the future applicants seeking Professional Accreditation will be required to hold a relevant Educational programme completed to a minimum of Level 8 on the NFQ which are validated or awarded by QQI or an equivalent awarding body.
Please note that many professional accrediting bodies require even higher qualifications. Applicants for programmes leading to an educational qualification in the fields of Counselling or Psychotherapy related areas should bar this in mind when selecting programmes of study.
